Axel groped in his pocket for his house key, bracing his shopping against the doorframe while he searched for it. It looked awkward, but it was a well-rehearsed routine.
The early signs were promising; he couldn't hear anything smashing. That didn't mean that it hadn't all gone down while he was at the market, however. For all he knew, he was walking in to the sight of a just-finished and yet epic battle. He didn't want to consider how much a remembrance plaque for all his stuff might cost.
He found his key and slid it into the door. Once the latch clicked open, he adjusted the hold he had on his groceries and carefully pushed the door open with the toe of his boot, half-worried about what he'd find.
