Gladio liked the palace being a little quieter.

All those visiting Khamja members, especially some of those likely to throw their weight around, set his teeth on edge. Alucard was the greatest offender, even if he had been there with Ignis's contact, Integra. They were supposed to be on the same 'side', whatever that meant, but that didn't mean he didn't make him uneasy. He'd felt no small amount of relief when he'd gone.

No having to be alert every minute of every day had given him a little time to look over the books in the library, partly out of a healthy interest in literature, and partly in a vain attempt to find that book he'd mentioned to Ignis after the meeting. He'd had no luck on that front, but the rest of the library's readable content had given him something to do.

He'd not had Ignis's fantastically good luck when it came to networking. He'd made a few friends, notably a couple of the girls and Kadaj, a silver-haired boy who he had been informed was a proper member of the Clan and not somebody's lackey, but they didn't seem to have the same influence as some of those Ignis had been rubbing shoulders with, like Lumi.

When Ignis returned to their still-shared room, he was sat on the bed, back against the headboard, a book in his hands. It was one of the library's many volumes, but he wasn't entirely certain if he was allowed to take it from there. Nobody had said anything, though that little gremlin of a man had watched him all the way out with the same critical eye as a particularly avid people-watcher in a coffee shop window.

"Not so much," he admitted. "People're less inclined to chat with the monkey than they are the organ grinder."
