Ignis hummed his confirmation and looked at his sleeves as he worked them up, folding the material over until it stayed just above his elbows.

"The Philosopher's Stone appears to be infinitely more powerful than the meeting made it sound," he explained. "Alchemy has a few innate rules. The practitioner has to completely understand the material they work with; you can't increase something's mass, and you can't change things to other forms of matter. Metal stays metal, rock stays rock, and ten pounds of rock remains ten pounds of rock no matter what shape you impose upon it. Unless you have a stone."

Ienzo's words on rebounds echoed in Ignis's mind. The art must have required significant study to master even a handful of types of transmutation. But the stone could negate even that.

"The stone, in essence, allows the user to bypass the basic order of the universe and create matter from nothing, or change non-living matter into living matter," Ignis paused, and added, "and I would imagine vice versa. Kuja's talk of it being a power source is just the tip of the iceberg. The thing is an apparently inexhaustible, indestructible resource that all but grants an appropriately skilled user the power of gods."
