Ignis frowned and looked at Gladio. Ienzo had been cagey on the subject of the stone's composition and manner of manufacture. The thing had been mythical up until recently, and news of its existence had shocked and excited too many that Ignis expected had more knowledge of alchemy than himself.
"Equivalent Exchange," he said, quietly. "You can't get something from nothing, and that's true even with the stone. The difference, if one bears a stone, is that the stone pays the price of whatever shortfall in materials or power is needed to complete a transmutation."
He looked away from Gladio, and over towards what little remained of his Ebony. Ignis walked up to the carefully stacked cans and selected one, cracking it open. "Ienzo claimed he doesn't know what the stone is made of, but whatever it is, it's something of significant intrinsic value to the universe."
Ignis scowled, and lifted the can, settling his elbow on the wrist of his opposite hand. "Kuja said Captain Aizen had realised the plate at Midgar was a transmutation circle, and he moved in to obtain it. The question becomes, was the city destroyed to obtain the stone, or create it?"
He shook his head, and turned back towards Gladio. "Obviously I'm not an alchemist, and even people that are don't seem to know much of the method of the thing's creation, but Midgar's fall was such a strange event that one can't help but wonder."
