Ignis gave a short nod to Gladio's question. He'd spent only a few minutes talking with Ienzo, but he'd behaved exactly as expected when it came to his willingness to impart his expertise, with a handful of notable exceptions.

"I do," he answered, "it was the only subject he brushed off quickly."

Ignis inhaled slowly. Captain Aizen had taken an alchemist with him to Midgar to retrieve the stone, namely, they'd been told, to verify it. That meant that Ienzo must have come into contact with it, and it seemed unlikely that someone well versed in the Alchemical arts wouldn't have a hint as to the source of power of the object they were holding. It'd be like expecting a mage not to recognise the type of materia they held, even if they weren't capable of the spell.

"He may have other reasons for not being as forthcoming on that subject, however," Ignis added, turning to Gladio once more. "It turns out Ienzo was pressganged, and currently is only allowed to leave this Palace with an Arrancar escort. He did his best to warn me that even the people here that appear friendly are not what they seem."

Which did, of course, include Ienzo himself. He was obviously a scholar of considerable scope and expertise, and an extremely skilled alchemist if he was being used by Captain Aizen. His youthful enthusiasm for knowledge could be as much of a veneer over dangerously sharp intelligence as Gladio's muscles and attitude covered his own.
