"He's clearly spent a long time learning to navigate menus in the script, and since some of the language persists in certain circles, it wouldn't surprise me if he can read more than a handful of words by now."
There was no other possible explanation, and it was certainly an impressive feat. The fact that the ships controls could function as a basis for re-translating the language hadn't escaped Ignis. If one could work out, as Lumi had done, what functions each control served, it was a difficult but plausible step from there to translate what each of the words were, and from there again to spot patterns in other parts of the text.
