It was weird to him that any old person didn't just learn how to build and repair it, like on every other world he'd been on. It was a trade where he was from, but on Spira it was more like a deeply ingrained racial thing that was only now just beginning to leak beyond the Moogle and Al Bhed peoples. Apparently, for years, people distrusted the Al Bhed entirely and, as a result, eschewed their inventions as well.
It was stranger still, to him, that Selkies -- Al Bhed descendants -- didn't have the same knack for it as the their pureblooded ancestors and relatives.
