It wasn't that he was scared, he just wasn't sure whether Tayuya and Yylfordt would cope with an enemy that had the ability to make their side invincible or someone who would have probably matched Ulquiorra if he hadn't pulled the wrong sign in their little game of Elemental Rock, Paper and Scissors.
His sword, Pantera, was in the Arrancar approximation of Shikai. He wore the jaw-like mask of his Coeurl-type Hollow on his face and he knew for a fact that his tell-tale half-Hollow Chakra had been broadcasting their position since he released it. There was no way that the Berserker's group wouldn't have felt his presence from the moment that Tayuya dismissed Ifrit.
