There was certainly much less messing about with the usual kindling, tinder, fuel arrangement when you could produce a fireball so hot it both negated the need to start a fire slowly and burned away what remaining moisture lurked within the wood.

Nothing special, just a few wild onions and edible grass roots, but enough to make a stew or skewered meat a bit more interesting.
