Axel raised his eyebrows when Nel addressed him. Clearly Saix and their foe's rivalry was well known enough for her not to try and get between them but he was another matter. She seemed smart, wanting to avert a fight before it started.
If they were a branch of Khamja then it made sense for them to want to avoid a war of attrition. That is, in effect, what it would be with two rival groups of their size, even if neither knew the full extent of the numbers on the other side.
"These don't come with sheaths," he said, glancing down at them with a bit of a smirk to offset his otherwise serious expression. "And if you think I'm hooking them back up while a hostile group is in front of or behind me, you're crazy."
