Make my way back home

Their foray into the Vile Peaks had been fruitful and frustrating at the same time. Yylfordt had got the time the day after their encounter with the stupidly overpowered-for-what-it-was Hollow to go and mooch among the old ruins left there. He'd wanted to bring back a lot more than he'd been able to, in the end, partly because of the bulk of things. He'd got some very flat looks when he'd suggested just leaving some people behind so there was more room on the Ragnarok; fortunately, they'd known he was joking.

Or had thought he was, anyway.

They'd brought back what they could, and Even and his scary Aeon level ice powers had gone off to his laboratory, and Nel had gone back to doing whatever she did all day, and Yylfordt, Apache, Tayuya, Kadaj, and Grimmjow had been left to their usual devices again.

They'd got bored after two days, and Yylfordt had got round to wiring up their coffee machine. He'd been tempted to just steal it and wire it up in his workshop and then lord it over Szayel that he had one, but he hadn't wanted to annoy Apache and Grimmjow any more than he usually did by existing, so he was working on connecting in to the Palace's electrics, and running a cable to the Sunhouse.

Which was about when he'd decided he could really do with some more insulated wire, and connector pins, and another socket adapter wouldn't go amiss, really. He had things, of course, he was Al Bhed, he'd never not have things. But that was why he needed more things, because if he used these things then he'd be running low, and something about machina and the associated gidgets and gadgets brought out the hoarder in him. He could never allow himself to get down to his last thing, because then what if he needed to use that, and ended up with no things?

He'd got some funny looks when he'd tried to explain his reasoning for wanting to trip into Rabanastre, just to pick up some basics, even though he already had the basics. It was only Rabanastre, and it would only be a day. They'd proven they could go out and come back without getting in trouble. Anyway Nel had apparently told Aizen she'd been impressed with Grimmjow's leadership ability while she was out with them.

They'd been allowed to go to Rabanastre. It was only a short hop of a journey, a shorter hop than Nel usually made to get groceries, which was probably some of the reason they'd been allowed to make it. The Arrancar overall were being given that little bit more freedom, one outing at a time.

The girls had come, because Tayuya and Apache jumped at any chance to get out. Yylfordt had, if he was honest, taken a bit of pride in showing Apache around the Al Bhed quarter. Then he'd burned with jealousy when he'd seen Kadaj give an absently friendly wave to a cute Al Bhed girl in folded down dungarees and a bra, working in the Rockbell repair shop, and getting it returned cheerily. He'd been even more jealous when Kadaj, after being asked, had said simply that she was Winry, which caused a minor meltdown on Yylfordt's part.

He'd not been allowed to backtrack and talk to her, though, as much as he'd wanted to. Kadaj had refused to take him back and introduce him, too, on the grounds that they weren't here for long enough for Yylfordt to fanboy the Rockbells.

"Bro, can't we just--?" He asked again, as they were leaving. The intention was to get something to eat, but Rabanastre Al Bhed food was a little too authentic for some. You had to go to the peripheries if you wanted something everyone found palatable, funny as it would be to try and get Kadaj or Apache to try Desert Oysters.

"This is an unexpected turn of events, certainly," Saix agreed, glancing briefly at Grimmjow as he looked around at the rest of them.

It was going to be hard to fight them again, should the need arise, he realised. They had more in common than they'd expected.
gotitmemorised: (What?!)

Lea blinked, looking at Tayuya and scowling, wondering if he'd heard right. Did she just imply that she thought that he and Saix were a thing? Like a thing thing?

"Wha..? Me and Saix?" He asked, staring at her. "No way."

The idea was ridiculous. They were best friends! They'd known each other since they were kids. He wasn't going to casually strike up a relationship with him of all people. That would be way too weird.
cierva: Smile in profile. (Coming slow and deep.)

[personal profile] cierva 2016-04-23 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Apache said, giving a shrug. "But if it's okay with somebody higher ranked, it's fine by me."

She liked Fang. She'd decided that. She'd come forward and effectively killed Yylfordt's grounds for an argument with an artful mixture of lesbianism and information he hadn't been aware of. He wasn't about to go and call Halibel a slut, because she'd stove his head in, so he could just shut up when it came to her.
jawmask: Geared up. (Let's do this!)

[personal profile] jawmask 2016-04-23 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"And I thought we were gonna end up causing trouble for the city guards," he snorted, looking at everybody else.

Even Tayuya seemed to be getting on well enough with the Fire Elemental she hated. Well, she was talking and hadn't threatened him with death or mutilation for a while, so she was doing better than he expected. If nothing else, she seemed less grouchy with him at the moment than she did with Even after the trip to the Vile Peaks.

Maybe she was mellowing.

"Fighting you has been the most fun I've had in a long time," Saix said, to Grimmjow, but he glanced at Lea, who seemed to be getting worked up over something. Saix wasn't sure what; he hadn't been listening to their conversation. "There is a time and a place, however, and here and now is neither."

It was strange to see just how amicable everything could be between the two groups. Fang had done an excellent job at quelling the argument between Apache and the Al Bhed. Lea had already met the little silver haired one, who was significantly more reasonable than Saix recalled.

There was only the unsettled matter of who would win between himself and Grimmjow, but there was always time for that, just so long as their friends were being caught up in it.

"Huh," Tayuya said, flatly. She'd clearly found a spot to poke at, judging by the fire elemental's reaction. He didn't seem to have even considered it. "I'd have sworn you two were." She looked at Lea, as if weighing him up, and then asked, plainly, "Why not?"

Aerith giggled at both Tayuya's assumption, and Lea's reaction. She knew what kind of relationship he and Saix had, and it was the sort of longstanding close friendship that had reached the point where they were more like siblings. Complete with picking on each other as a display of affection.

Saix, secretly, had a sense of humour, or thought he did. Lea was much the same. They loved each other very much, and this meant turning each other into the butt of their jokes, but they didn't love each like that.

"Lea," she said, grinning at Tayuya, and taking hod of Lea's arm in two of her hands, "is mine. Saix is his own." Unless Fang got bored, anyway, then Aerith was pretty sure Saix would be hers if she wanted him.
jawmask: Smile. (Should have stood up.)

[personal profile] jawmask 2016-04-27 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Grimmjow agreed, giving a nod.

He might not have been keen to admit it, but he did enjoy fighting the berserker. It was a fun challenge, evenly matched as they were, and he liked the adrenaline buzz and the lack of certain outcome. It never seemed like either really fought to kill, save for a few occasions, it was just a risky way of letting off steam. It was unlikely to continue after this, however.
cierva: Unconcerned. (Stand my ground.)

[personal profile] cierva 2016-04-27 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"The chances of me ending up in a room with somebody who can genuinely kick my ass is really small," she said, fairly.

Saix was one of very few who would be able to do that, let alone somebody who would actively wish her harm. The chances of her happening upon somebody who were a risk on both counts was virtually non-existent.

"So drop it. It's done with."
gotitmemorised: (Please continue. This is enthralling.)

[personal profile] gotitmemorised 2016-04-27 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Lea opened his mouth to give an explanation, not that it need one, in his opinion, when Aerith spoke for him. He raised his eyebrows a little bit and his cheeks coloured, but he grinned awkwardly.

"Yeah," he said. "Saix is my best friend. It'd be weird, anyway."

He didn't really look at Saix that way. They'd always been best friends and partners in crime, barring that time during Organization XIII where they didn't see eye to eye. It had resulted in negative feelings where negativity wasn't supposed to be possible.

"We've been friends since we were kids," he elaborated, lamely.

"We'll have to find some other way to compete, next time," Saix said, a cocky smirk on his face. There had, after all, been no clear winner when you considered their various altercations. Sometimes Saix won, sometimes Grimmjow had.

Neither of them would be willing to accept the resounding victory of the other unless it was proven.

Tayuya looked at Lea, and decided this guy was a grade A dork. A girl says he's her boyfriend, and he fucking blushes? Dork.

She folded her arms, and snorted. "Well," she said, huffily and still mocking, "he used your chakra last time, so you two must have spent a lot of fucking time together." She shrugged, and gave Lea the once over. If he thought she believed that shit had gone unnoticed, he was an idiot. "Excuse me for assuming you were knocking boots."

[personal profile] hearstheplanet 2016-04-30 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Aerith looked at Tayuya in surprise. "He did?" She asked. She'd been unconscious, under the effects of Tayuya's sleep spell for half the fight. When it had broken, there hadn't been time for questions, and Saix hadn't exactly been talkative about the fight.

Everyone had wanted to move on and catch the Chocobo Eater they'd originally been after.

She looked at Saix, and then at Lea, and made a thoughtful murmur. They'd had their difficulties, she knew that, but she'd also seen the hints at a deep and enduring friendship between the two. It did kind of make sense that Saix might be able to use whatever of Lea's chakra he'd been exposed to over the years, if that current really did run as deep as Aerith thought it might.
jawmask: Reiatsu. (But you're out of time.)

[personal profile] jawmask 2016-05-02 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Grimmjow agreed, giving his rival a cocky smirk. "Some way that won't involve everyone else."

He enjoyed fighting, it was part of who he was, but he didn't like seeing his friends fall on the battlefield for the sake of his petty rivalry.

Something more constructive might be good for the future.

[personal profile] gotitmemorised 2016-05-02 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I dunno what that was about," Lea said, giving a shrug.

The accusation wasn't insulting, exactly, but it was plenty weird. He shook his head, thinking it far more likely that Saix would find himself in bed with Fang than him.
cierva: Mild glare. (Things I thought I put behind me...)

[personal profile] cierva 2016-05-02 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, I know," Apache said, a touch impatiently. "You're a dick because you care, I get it."

She rolled her eyes and turned from Yylfordt and Fang to the rest of the group. Both groups. It was all well and good that they'd decided against fighting to the death this time, but she was still getting hungry.

Aerith looked thoughtful as she glanced up at Lea. "It's rare," she said, "because it needs two things to even be possible; two people who have spent enough time around each other to have absorbed enough of each other's chakra to use, and for them to be in tune enough with each other to use it." She smiled, sweetly, glancing at Saix who seemed to be embroiled in some prettyboy posturing competition with Grimmjow, judging by the smirking they were doing at each other. "He must love you very much," she said. "Not romantically," she added, hurriedly, in case Lea got the wrong idea, because she doubted Saix had romantic designs on Lea or he'd have made a move already, "but in the way people mean when they talk about loving a sibling."

She grinned at Lea. "It's sweet, really, and I bet he'd hate me saying that."

Tayuya curled her upper lip and sneered. "It's fucking sappy is what it is."

She had no time for stupid sentimental bullshit like that. And there the berserker was, pretending to be a badass right now, smirking at Grimmjow as if he was in a cocky bastard-off with him. Grimmjow, in her totally unbiased opinion, was winning.

"Quit your dick waving," she shouted at them both, "we're hungry."

Kadaj glanced at Tayuya and rolled his eyes.

He, if he was honest, felt a bit jealous. That kind of thing happened in plays more than reality, as a sort of spontaneous blood brothers thing. It must be nice, knowing someone would go to the end of the world for you.

"You get grumpier when you're hungry, you know," he told her.
innatelunacy: (pic#9805187)

[personal profile] innatelunacy 2016-05-02 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Saix made a noise of agreement, his smirk at Grimmjow widening.

Then Tayuya broke the spell, and Saix raised an eyebrow. She put him in mind, he thought, of a particularly uncouth Larxene. Almost as if Larxene and her current beau, the Akatsuki Jashinist, had bred and raised a girl. Tayuya had Larxene's attitude, and Hidan's mouth.

The thought was horrifying.

"Now there's a competition I'd definitely win," he said, quietly, unable to resist. Tayuya had started it.
gotitmemorised: (Uh ... if you say so...)

[personal profile] gotitmemorised 2016-05-03 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"It does sound kind of sappy," Lea said awkwardly, scratching his neck with his hand.

He looked over to Saix as Tayuya interrupted them and realised that he was also rather hungry. The thought of food had fallen by the wayside in the face of the fight that didn't pan out.
jawmask: Smile. (Should have stood up.)

[personal profile] jawmask 2016-05-03 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
"You wanna put a bet on that?" Grimmjow said, equally as quiet, a smirk curling his lips.

Food was a good plan, though. He'd almost forgotten about it.

"C'mon, let's get something to eat," he said, glancing around at his own group before settling on Yylfordt. "And no fucking desert oysters."
