Marluxia raised an eyebrow, flashing Lumi an amused look of his own. They did play up the Lumi as loyal guard dog angle, and deliberately so. It excused Marluxia from having to flash his own ability around, and it also meant that people were warier of them both. Lumi was almost automatically excused certain actions because they were done in Marluxia's defence, and he was frightfully powerful in his own right, in the most literal possible sense.
"That really depends," he said, softly, "on how effective one's own bark is." His eyes fell to the bullet wound at Lumi's shoulder, healed over but far from fully healed, yet. He touched the skin around the wound with his fingertips, delicately, before withdrawing them again and looking at Lumi to flash him a smile. "If I had to take you back to Szayel again, I'd be forced to kill the cretin, and that wouldn't do at all."
