Kadaj did know what would happen if Orochimaru got too much space. That was one of the drawbacks to the whole killing him thing, even with Geostigma.

Once the stigma has him, it won't matter what he's doing, or what he looks like; his time is up."
Keep him going, last him out, dodge the worst and weather the rest; so long as Kadaj and Souba stayed in the battle, Orochimaru was going to die today.
