They'd managed to avoid the worst of the trouble on their exit from Midgar's ruins, much to Saix's quiet disappointment. They ran into a couple of relatively weak Hollows, new and of low concern, which were quickly dispatched. Saix had hoped for a bigger challenge, but it was probably for the best when they were followed by a shellshocked flock of refugees.

The Turks left for Edge once they'd cleared the rubble, a silent, mutual understanding having been reached with them that it would help no one, now, to continue whatever unfinished business was on the cards. Some of the refugees went too, claiming family, or friends who could help them, but the largest number stayed with the party until they reached Palumpolum. This was, it was reasoned, as far as they could safely take them. Word would be spreading around Edge by now that there had been survivors, and that increased the risks. Rumour travelled faster than feet, and neither Axel nor Saix wanted to run headlong into a welcoming committee that might recognise them for Ryoka.

Aerith, fortunately, agreed. She'd been nervous when they first came out of the shadow of what had once been Midgar, but once they'd travelled further out, to where the wilds of nature shaped the land, instead of the technology of men, she'd seemed to relax and take it in stride.

"Do you want to bring her back to Rabanastre, or do you have somewhere else in mind?" Saix asked of Axel, once the city of Palumpolum was part of the horizon again, instead of breathing down their necks. He was, grudgingly, impressed; Aerith was a city girl, but she hadn't made a single grumble when they'd travelled, which was more than could be said for the refugees that had stayed with them.

Nel was the only one of the Arrancar who hadn't released to shikai. She did so now, since everyone else seemed so intent on getting up to their armpits in each other's blood.

"You know that for sure, do you?" He smirked sceptically at his newfound opponent.

Midgar might have some information on him, but it wasn't comprehensive. To his knowledge, Khamja didn't even know that he was running with members of the Order now, even if he wasn't one himself. He'd been good, and kept a low profile, so information on his abilities should be quite limited. Even Zexion and Marluxia were only privy to partial information on him.

He heated up his weapons, manipulated the fire around them and used this to spin them at high speed about an inch from his palms. He was at an elemental disadvantage against Ulquiorra --not that he knew that-- but he was powerful beyond his flames and had no intention of relying on magic for the fight. He sent one chakram at spinning towards him with considerable velocity to lower his guard and deflect his attention from him and followed it up swiftly with a harsh dose of Deprotect to give himself an edge.

He knew nothing about Ulquiorra, but if he was associated with Khamja, he was bound to be at least half-way powerful, especially since he had somehow taken his own arrogance and multiplied it with a simple comment.

Once the debuff had been cast, he used the fire still burning on his weapon to direct it back to himself, giving him two chances at a strike with one weapon. His attack combination was not one of an unversed rookie.

Grimmjow defended in turn and skipped back a few steps to direct a bala blast at Saix before darting back in for another vicious strike. He grinned the whole time, showing his teeth in an expression of lunatic exhilaration at the entire prospect of a battle against such a worthy opponent.

That he had an ongoing feud with him just made the whole situation that much sweeter.

Luppi stood back, observing both Saix and Axel in their battles against his comrades. There would be no love lost if anything happened to either of them, but it was always worth watching for future reference should they not win.

He looked at Aerith and smiled a little bit. It was bad form to attack the healer of a human enemy party if they weren't engaging, but it certainly made sense to disable them.

And hey, since when did Arrancar play by the rules?

He raised a hand, directed it at the girl and started to gather energy at his sleeve-covered palm. He stayed back and out of the way of the other two battles.
